Fitzroy Building located at the heart of the campus was refurbished to creating a new home for the Plymouth Business School. Works included overcladding with Aluminium rainscreen cladding, new timber aluminium composite windows
and curtain wall screens, all carried out whilst the building was fully occupied, without interruption of normal term time activities.

This is the second project that design build facades have completed for the University of Plymouth. The Davy and Smeaton Buildings were overclad between May 1998 and Sept 1998.

  • Heating energy consumption reduced by up to 80%
  • Operational carbon emissions reduced by up to 80%
  • Contemporary quality building – “looks like a new building”
  • Capital payback in c.10 years from savings in heating energy alone
  • Close collaboration ensured project progressed whilst the building was fully occupied with minimal disruption to students and staff.
